About Risonamento
Risonamento refers to the phenomenon of sympathetic resonance in stringed instruments, where the vibration of one string excites vibrations in unstruck strings tuned to related frequencies. The concept is well-established in acoustics, though the standard Italian term is more commonly "risonanza" rather than "risonamento." The effect is most familiar on the piano, where depressing the sustain pedal lifts all dampers and allows every string to vibrate sympathetically with the struck notes, producing a rich halo of overtones.
