About Prima volta
Prima volta, often notated as a bracketed "1." above the staff, marks a passage that should be played only during the first iteration of a repeated section. When the performer reaches the repeat sign and goes back, the prima volta bars are skipped in favour of the seconda volta (second-time) bars.
